Job Specific Occupational Safety and Health Considerations (if applicable) :

Nature of the Position :

The Administrative Assistant will receive technical guidance and support from the Finance Officer at Sub Office of Gore, provide routine administrative assistance to the Field Office of Moissala and report directly to the Head of the Field Office.

The incumbent will manage the available Guest House for staff accommodation and the fleet of vehicles. In so doing s/he will supervise and coordinate the activities of the Drivers and cleaning service providers. Regarding the functional structure of the office, s/he will oversee minor logistic activities in liaison with the supply unit at the Sub Office of Gore.

The incumbent should have a strong experience in provision of Administrative support to a large organisation in a humanitarian context. Possession of UNHCR field experience, including emergency situations and working in a remote area, coupled with a good knowledge in basic administrative, financial and supply procedures and processes is an added advantage.

Moreover, the candidate should be client service oriented in daily contacts with staff, her/his colleagues in other field offices within the SO-Office and external stakeholders and demonstrate a good inter-personal skill.

Living and Working Conditions :

In terms of working and living conditions, Haraze is a small town that has only very basic infrastructure with very limited leisure and recreational facilities. Malaria is prevalent and all staff need to be vigilant by taking the relevant measures. Candidates with particular existing or potential health conditions should carefully assess their suitability to Gore. Gore is an E non-family location. There are also very limited health facilities available locally.

Any serious medical condition initially requires going to the Moundou City Regional Hospital (two hour drive) with possible onward evacuation to Ndjamena or abroad. The office has established a guest house for the international colleagues and private accommodation is possible. Essential foodstuffs and basic domestic items can be found in Gore and there is a possibility for staff members to get whatever other items needed from the city of Moundou. There is currently one regular weekly Monday UNHAS flight to and from Ndjamena with occasional ad hoc flights on Thursdays.

This means that road travel to and from Ndjamena may be required.

The overall situation remains calm throughout the South and Southeast, and camps, although armed escorts for missions in remote locations can be resorted to as a precautionary measure. The civilian character of camps has so far been preserved and secured by DPHR (governmental organization responsible for the security of humanitarian staff). No threat directed specifically against the United Nations system presence and other partners has so far occurred.
