Nature of the Position :

The Protection Associate will report to the Head of Office and will receive technical guidance and support from the Senior Protection Officer at the Sub Office. S/he will monitor operational procedures and practices in line with international standards, contribute to designing a comprehensive protection strategy and ensure that PoCs are involved in making decisions that affect them. The incumbent will need to build and maintain effective relationships with communities of concern, local authorities, and protection assistance partners. The candidate should have qualifications in International Law or Political Science. Completion of Protection Learning Programme is desirable. Good functional skills in IT-Computer Literacy,
CL-Protection & Solutions Awareness, PR-Protection-related guidelines, standards and indicators and PR-Refugee Protection Principles and Framework is an added advantage. Previous working experience in emergency situations including the capacity to undertake activities under pressure and in a stressful working environment is desirable.

 

 

Living and Working Conditions :

Since 2015, Boko Haram intensified attacks causing displacement of 450,000 IDPs and 19,416 refugees. Humanitarian intervention is delivered in a  context of instability.

Bagasola is Non-Family and High-risk duty station with no banking services, extremely limited facilities, basic amenities, and recreational outlets.

Working and living conditions are challenging and highly stressful where capacity for self-care is critical. Freedom of movement in town is restricted.

Staff are reminded to strictly respect security.

Temperatures during the dry season reach 45C. During the rainy season, accessibility is logistically suspended. Malaria is prevalent. Lack of adequate medical facilities require evacuation to N’Djamena for minor illnesses and treatment.

The type of accommodation is Residential. UN international and national staffs members live in UNHCR guest house. Other international UN and INGOs staffs live in Bagasola town. R&R: 6 weeks. UNHAS flights available 3 times/week to N’Djamena.
