Flight Data Analyst

The Role :

As a Flight Data Analyst you will be responsible for compiling and analysing flight data, identifying trends and providing recommendations to the business for improvements to compliance and safety.

This role is instrumental in providing administration of the Virgin Australia Group Flight Data Analysis Program (FDAP) including :

  • Assist in ensuring the Virgin Australia Group FDAP is operated in compliance with the requirements documented in the CASA regulatory requirement (CASR – Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 91 & 119) & part of the ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (ICAO Annex 6 – Operation of aircraft) for an Airline Operators SMS (Safety Management System) and the Virgin Australia Operations Manual ;
  • Monitor and maintain flight data capture rates, liaise with IT, Engineering and external service providers as required to rectify systemic faults or failures ;
  • Provide ongoing analysis and validation of flight data for all Virgin Australia Group aircraft types ;
  • Perform statistical analysis to determine potential risk issues, identify trends and evaluate the need for further investigation and in depth analysis ;
  • Support in the provision of analysing and escalating determined risks for key stakeholders to aid in the investigative processes ;
  • Assist in the provision of routine reports to key stakeholders; and
  • Maintain confidentiality in all data analysis and reporting, including secure records of investigated incidents, recommendations and outcomes and of modifications of event limit parameters.

 

What you need to be successful :

This is a fantastic opportunity for an analytical thinker with a passion for aviation looking for a challenging role integral to the flight operation of Virgin Australia :

  • An excellent understanding of high- capacity jet/turbo-prop aircraft operations, including standard operating procedures, aircraft systems, jet and turbo-prop engines and navigation systems ;
  • Thorough knowledge of Aviation Legislation, Regulations and Orders as applicable to flight data monitoring and the operation of high-capacity jet/turbo-prop aircraft ;
  • High level of attention to detail to analyse data in many forms and provide accurate and reliable advice and recommendations based on this analysis ;
  • Ability to judge severity of problems and identify the need to escalate and/or employ external services to provide solutions ;
  • Demonstrated competency in dealing with key stakeholders, industrial organizations, flight crew and management in an effective and diplomatic manner ;
  • A methodical and disciplined approach to tasks ;
  • Computer literacy, including MS Office suite, Excel, PowerBI, Python, R in particular.
