Request for expression of interest to the Multinational Nacala Road Corridor Development Project Phase V – Malawi

Description :

  1. The Government of the Republic of Malawi has received a loan from the African Development Fund to finance the Multinational Nacala Road Corridor Development Project Phase V. The project will be implemented over a period of 60 months.
  1. The principal objective of the project is to contribute to reducing transportation costs along the Nacala Road Corridor, as well as to contribute to the economic integration of the SADC region, through improvement of road infrastructure and border crossings. The Nacala Port is the nearest seaport for Malawi, and improved infrastructure along the Nacala Road Corridor will improve Malawi’s trade competitiveness. The Nacala Corridor extends from Lusaka through Malawi to Nacala Port in Mozambique and covers a distance of 1,335 km.
  1. The project includes the following components:

 

Component 1- Road Rehabilitation :

  1. Nsipe-Liwonde Road – Design Review/ Supervision ;
  2. Mangochi -Chiponde Road – Feasibility Study ;
  3. Nsipe-Liwonde Road Rehabilitation – Works ;
  4. Construction of Markets ;
  5. HIV/STI Sensitization ;
  6. Road Safety Sensitization ;
  7. Road Safety Audit ;
  8. Catchment Area Protection ;
  9. Compensation and Resettlement ;

Component 2 – Trade Facilitation :

  1. OSBP – Design Review/ Supervision (Chiponde) ;
  2. OSBP – Works ;
  3. OSBP – Installation of IT ;
  4. OSBP – Weigh Bridge ;
  5. Compensation and Resettlement .

Component 3 – Capacity Building :

  1. Upgrading of Pavement Management System (PMS) ;
  2. Training of RA Staff in PMS ;
  3. Training Border Staff / SMEs in OSBP Operations ;
  4. Axle load Control Capacity building .

Component 4 – Support to Project Management :

  1. Financial Audit ;
  2. Technical Audit ;
  3. Monitoring and Evaluation ;
  4. Communication ;
  5. Procurement of Goods and Works will be in accordance with the Bank’s Rules of Procedures for the Procurement of Goods and Works dated October 2015 or as may be amended from time to time. Acquisition of the services of Consultants will follow the Bank’s Rules of Procedure for the Use of Consultants. Bidding documents are expected to be available in July 2019.
  1. Specific Procurement Notices will be published in the UNDB, the AfDB website and the local newspapers as they become available from July 2019.
