REQUEST FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF INDIVIDUAL CONSULTANT (DUTY STATION – NAIROBI)

1. The African Development Bank hereby invites Individual Consultants to indicate their interest in the following Assignment : “Communication Consultant”;
2. The assignment will entail working with the Bank’s regional office in East Africa to raise awareness and visibility around existing projects and programs ;
3. The RDGE invites Individual Consultants to indicate their interest in providing the above-described services. Interested Consultants shall provide information on their qualifications and experience demonstrating their ability to undertake this Assignment (documents, reference to similar services, experience in similar assignments, and in similar international institutions, etc.) ;
4. The eligibility criteria, establishment of the short-list and the selection procedure shall be in accordance with the African Development Bank’s “Rules and Procedures for the use of Consultants” May 2008 Edition revised October 2015, which is available on the Bank’s website at http://www.afdb.org. Please, note that interest expressed by a Consultant does not imply any obligation on the part of the Bank to include him/her in the shortlist ;
5. The estimated duration of services is 12 months. However, an initial contract will be issued for 6 months with possibility of renewal if performance is satisfactory and as determined by the Bank. The successful Consultant will be expected to start as soon as the selection process is completed (probably early December) and the contract signed ;

8. Establishment of the Shortlist: A shortlist of three to six individual consultants will be established at the end of the request of expression of interest. The consultants on the shortlist will be evaluated based on the following criteria :

The African Development Bank (the ‘Bank’) hereby invites individual consultants to indicate their interest in the following assignment : Communication Consultant. The assignment will entail working with the Bank’s regional office in East Africa to raise awareness and visibility around existing projects and programs.

Introduction :

The African Development Bank (“the Bank”) is a premier multilateral development finance institution. Its mission is to contribute to the economic development and social progress of its regional members, mobilize resources for the financing of development projects, and promote economic integration on the continent. The Bank has 54 African member countries and 26 non-regional member countries.

The current President is strongly committed to accelerating the implementation of the Bank’s Ten Year Strategy (TYS 2013-2022), which has put the Bank at the center of Africa’s economic transformation, and which is being implemented through five key priorities (the High 5s). These are to :

• Light Up and Power Africa ;
• Feed Africa ;
• Industrialise Africa ;
• Integrate Africa; and
• Improve the Quality of Life for Africans

COMMUNICATION CONSULTANT

Scope of Work and Concrete Deliverables

The services to be provided under the assignment include but not limited to :

• Provide editorial coverage of business opportunity seminars, events, projects, programs, initiatives ;

• PR and communications for events such as business opportunities seminars, signing ceremonies, project launches, workshops, etc. ;

• Draft success stories, press releases, web article, op-eds of showcase the Bank’s work in the region ;
• Write media advisories, briefs, talking points ;

• Assist in fact-checking and copy-editing all written documents ;

• Develop written material, ideas, news angles in support of digital communication ;

• Produce compelling content for social media, including but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn ;

• Support coverage of Bank’s flagship events ;

• Monitor, identify opportunities and track communications impact ;

• Other communications and external relations duties as needed ;

• Support the Bank’s country offices in preparation of documents and media outreach campaigns that showcase the development impact in member countries ;

• Engage with local media in East Africa to publicize the Bank’s engagement and development impact in the region.

Qualifications :

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communication, business administration, or related fields. A master’s degree in other fields with specialized training in communication will be considered ;

• Seven or more years of relevant and practical experience ;

• Demonstrated skills and expertise in the field of communications ;

• Knowledge of Africa and African development issues ;

• Familiarity with the business processes of the African Development Bank or similar institutions ;

• Ability to communicate orally and in writing effectively in English, with added knowledge of French ;

• Competence in relevant Microsoft business applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, etc.) ;

• Be a national of one of the member countries of the African Development Bank.

Duration and location :
