- The African Development Bank is looking for consulting firms to indicate their interest in the following complementary assignments : To roll out (i) an online incubation program and an online accelerator program under the Fashionomics Africa Masterclasses. The Bank invites interested parties to express their interest for either the incubation or the accelerator program targeting African textiles and fashion entrepreneurs, i.e. firms should not apply for both programs, but the one in which they have greater experience and expertise ;
- The scope of these complementary consultancies is to design, implement, deliver and manage the roll-out of online incubation and accelerator programs (IAPs) over a 2-years period within the Fashionomics Africa Masterclasses program. The online curriculum and content of the Fashionomics Africa IAPs will be delivered through the existing Fashionomics Africa Digital marketplace and Mobile App. The selected firms will collaborate closely together under the supervision of the Fashionomics Africa coordinator within the Bank’s Gender, Women and Civil Society Department (AHGC) ;
- The Masterclasses will be structured in separated incubator and accelerator programs, focused on improving the marketability of early stage (incubator) and growth-oriented startups (accelerator) to financiers through an emphasis on strengthening business and financial models, investment readiness, branding, marketing, digitization, sustainability and circular economy actions applied to the industry, and outlining preparations for the capital raising process through detailed coursework on entrepreneurial finance ;
- The selected firm will also provide mentorship and coaching services to the trainees through an online assistance on the Fashionomics Africa platform (Online IT Support Help Desk for Fashion entrepreneurs looking for information) ;
- The aim is to enroll at least 10,000 fashion entrepreneurs (of which 65% women-owned and led businesses) who can benefit from the online incubator and accelerator programs tailored for African fashion entrepreneurs ;
- At the end of the IAPs, the selected firms will organize online pitching competitions with the Fashionomics Africa strategic partners for the most promising fashion entrepreneurs with potential angel investors, venture capital investors, impact investors, foundations, banks, etc. Out of the 50 pitchers (25 from the incubation and 25 from the accelerator program), 12 finalists will be awarded with 20,000 USD grant funding each ;
- The content of the training modules and Fashionomics Africa masterclasses and pitching days must be in English. The online content provided through the online masterclasses should be subtitled in English, French, Arabic and Portuguese ;
- The project is funded by the Bank’s Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Multi-Donor Trust Fund (YEI-MDTF), an initiative that supports Africa’s entrepreneurship ecosystems ;
- The Firm or consortium will need to demonstrate the following :
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in Africa developing online courses with a demonstrable ability to work with entrepreneurs, private sector companies, building inclusive business models and applied expertise in the areas of gender, economic empowerment, and multi-sector partnerships ;
- Strong experience in running entrepreneurship incubator and accelerator programs, preferably for fashion SMEs and entrepreneurs in the region ;
- Strong network of partners in the space of entrepreneurship in the creative industries space with a focus on fashion within the continent ;
- Innovation track-record and work-experience and/or presence in Africa ;
- Strong networks with private sector companies operating in the Fashion industry in Africa ;
- Experience designing and delivering course curriculum and implementing incubation and/or acceleration activities for creative industries programs in the context of a developing countries ;
- Demonstrated partnerships with tech companies and local angel investors, venture capital firms and early-stage financiers that invest in fashion businesses from Sub-Saharan Africa ;
- In-depth knowledge and experience with digital business development applied to the fashion industry ;
- Strong understanding of the operating and business environment of, and preferably experience working with, enterprise enablers startup accelerators, and business incubators in developing countries and emerging markets ;
- Experience with mixed-method (quantitative and qualitative) research techniques, including the analysis of large datasets and use of statistical software (e.g. STATA, SPSS) ;
- Good knowledge of relevant policy, legal and institutional frameworks relating to the Fashion industry ;
- Proficiency in working in English and French. Arabic and Portuguese is a plus.
- The eligibility criteria, the establishment of a short list and the selection procedure shall be in conformity with the Rules and Procedure for the Selection of Corporate Consultants. Please, note that interest expressed by a Consulting Firm does not imply any obligation on the part of the Bank to include it in the shortlist ;
