Nature of the Position :

The Child Protection Associate will report to the Assistant Protection Officer or to the Senior Protection Officer, s/he is expected to work directly with communities and children of concern to identify the risks they face and to reinforce their capacities to protect themselves, their families, and communities. The incumbent must have knowledge of child protection policies and tools including the Best Interests Procedures Guidelines, local child protection laws, policies and services and understanding of displacement and protection issues including GBV, education and the application of the Age, Gender and Diversity Policy. The candidate should demonstrate good experience in participatory approaches to engage with and mobilize communities as well as working with marginalised groups. Knowledge of UNHCR Policies and procedures in protection, completion of the Protection Learning Programme and progress or CPIMS software is desirable. Furthermore, candidates, with substantial UNHCR and or NGO field experience in operations, including emergency situations as well as the capacity to discharge his/her tasks under pressure and stressful working environment will have an added advantage.

 

Living and Working Conditions :

Iriba, is characterised by very basic infrastructure as well as leisure and recreational facilities. Also, very limited health facilities are available locally.

Fresh fruits and vegetables can hardly be found in the local market. The office has established guest houses for the international colleagues, but private accommodation is possible as well though very few meet the established MORSS requirements. The Sub-Office is in the desert with harsh weather conditions, lack of water, and unavailability of basic infrastructure facilities such as roads which impact on timely delivery of quality humanitarian services to the beneficiaries. The climate is hot, dry and dusty. There are no banking facilities in Iriba. The nearest bank facility is at Abeche located at 270 km from Iriba where we happen to have most of the banks operating in Chad (BCC, ECOBANK etc¿). UN Humanitarian Aviation Services provide regular flights to and from Iriba to other cities in Chad mainly Abéché and N¿Djamena.
