Purpose of the Assignment

UNICEF aims to produce a multimedia package driven by compelling storytelling that will engage a social media audience and donors. The digital content should evoke empathy and understanding in the viewer and prompt them to share the piece via social media. It should focus on characters that can embody the overall messages that each of the product tends to convey.

Assignment Tasks

  • Participate in brainstorming/briefing sessions with UNICEF CO team to define in more detail the scope of work, creative concepts and key messages of each product;
  • Create a compilation of multimedia materials as described below. Once finalized, the multimedia materials will live on the global UNICEF social media channels, web platforms if deemed suitable, appropriate, and in line with the above.

Expected Deliverables

The content produced will be featuring the following thematic areas. The specific angles will be communicated to the agency upon selection after further consultations.

HEALTH

  1. Screening and prevention of Hepatitis E
  2. National response to HIV & Aids and PTMTC activities
  3. Emergency Health Care for returnees from CAR
  4. Malaria prevention

    WASH

  5. Access to Safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene promotion in 2 regions
  6. Access to drinking water for refugees (CAR crisis)

    EDUCATION

  7. Education in Emergencies (Lake Chad & CAR crisis)
  • Inclusive education for children affected by CAR crisis
  1. Basic Quality Education (Non-emergencies)
  • Teachers Capacity building
  • Out of school children
  • Girls Education

    NUTRITION

  1. Management of Acute Malnutrition in Chad
  2. Nutrition in Emergency

    PROTECTION

  3. Providing life-saving assistance to populations affected by Boko Haram conflict in Chad (multi-sector)

Photography

Provide a broad photography selection following in line with below requirements

  • Program coverage – professional photojournalism/documentary coverage of UNICEF and UN partners supported programs as well as general advocacy on the humanitarian situation can include documentation of program intervention as well as documenting the situation especially donors supported initiatives.
  • First person narrative visual storytelling with captions & quotes – professional photojournalism/documentary storytelling focused on an individual subject, telling the story through the life and experiences of an individual.  Visual storytelling includes captions and first-person quotes furthering the story-telling. Possibly a hero character in the narrative that is facing a challenge. Give some additional personality to the individuals beyond the main problem they are affected by. What kind of things do they love to do? How has the current crisis changed their lives? Make sure there are enough details about their lives in order to make them relatable. Emotional content resonates well with audiences and promotes further sharing. When possible, try to track and share before and after results of a story to show the impact individuals, UNICEF and our partners can make.
  • Everyday Voices – portraits of people directly addressing the camera with their gaze, participating in their own representation with personal quotes that serve to further storytelling and engage audience in the issue through identification with an individual. Research has shown that positive images tend to perform better on social media – something to bear in mind for Everyday Voices.

Videos

Produce 2 short videos (1’). The specific angles will be communicated to the consultant upon selection

  • Post-production of the videos, including the addition of graphics of animated visuals where required and subtitling of sound bytes in English and French as required.
  • Work in close coordination with the supervisors and Communication section, and incorporate inputs from the team and make necessary changes.
  • Provide shot list, interview transcripts, master files, mixed track master, B-Roll, and final script as required.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

Education

Years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrated experience in developing photos, videos and multimedia products that are shared globally through social media.
  • Experience with projects featuring children.
  • Experience developing original stories, short form video clips and/or documentary style videos.
  • Ability to deliver photographs and multimedia slideshows according to the specified quality and technical requirements
  • Experience, especially humanitarian, with international organizations, NGOs or non-profits.
  • Experience with global campaigns targeting a social media demographic.
  • Experience with utilizing the latest technology cameras and visual equipment.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF policy and procedures for photographing and working with children and adolescents.
