CONTRACT TYPE : NATIONAL CONTRACT

 

The role

Reporting directly to the Country Director, the ICC is accountable for assessing, monitoring and help mitigating both internal and external risks across the Country Programme; and providing effective challenge to the quality of management oversight on key functions within the Country Programme. Developing high quality approaches and systems, the ICC works closely with function/department leads and other senior staff, ensuring effective monitoring and response to external risks, associated with: local government and authorities, compliance with policy and regulations, legal and local political issues. Collaborating with teams across the country programme, the SCI Regional Office, Global Assurance and Centre for relevant areas., the ICC will also ensure that high quality, effective systems are in place to monitor and respond to internal risks, associated with but not limited to: partnerships and local NGO relationships, compliance with SCI policy and regulation, child safe guarding, fraud and corruption.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly

Qualifications and experience

  • Qualified internal auditor or accountant
  • Extensive experience in relevant operational areas (e.g. in programme/project management in an INGO context) and be willing to learn the appropriate audit skills
  • Be highly accurate, detail-orientated, and able to complete multiple projects, with conflicting priorities, on a timely basis
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and relationship building
  • Strong results-orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mind sets
  • Willingness to undertake high amount of travel within the Mali SCI field locations (40%) and work with minimum supervision under difficult conditions in some of the most underdeveloped, insecure and remote parts of Mali.
  • Strong cultural awareness and be able to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Demonstrate standards of ethics and integrity
  • Experience of risk-based auditing
  • Track record of leading a small team for specific short-term audit or other work assignments and delivering high quality timely results
  • Experience of evaluating systems and processes, identifying weaknesses and areas of improvements
  • Extensive experience in relevant operational areas (e.g. in programme/project management in an INGO context) and be willing to learn the appropriate audit skills
  • Commitment to Save the Children values
  • Excellent written communication ( report writing) skills -Fluent in written and spoken French and English

 

Desirable

  • INGO experience or have worked in a commercial/public sector international organisation
  • Familiarity with grant requirements of major donors such as USAID, EC/ECHO and the UN
  • Good financial analysis aptitude
  • Experience of Agresso financial software or other ERP softwares
  • Experience of audit
  • Counter fraud experience
  • Ability to look at the bigger picture when assessing organisational performance and risk
