About the Role

We are currently searching for a seasoned HR leader to take on the role as Regional HR Director for Africa tasked with leading and facilitating the development of a highly effective HR function in the West Africa region ensuring that the organization has the structure, culture and talent needed to deliver on the business needs.

Based in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, the Regional Human Resources Director serves as a member of the Africa Regional Management team to develop the Africa organizational strategy, key initiatives, business plans and direct all Human Resources programs to support overall business objectives in the region.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead, empower and develop a high performing HR team, including communicating clear expectations, setting performance objectives, providing regular and constructive performance feedback and leading documented semi-annual performance reviews, inspiring maximum potential
  • Collaborate with the Regional Vice President, VP HR Global Cocoa and the Africa Leadership team to understand the organization’s goals and required strategy & priorities from a people perspective
  • Evaluate business initiatives to determine the appropriate organizational design and interventions needed to meet organizational goals for the entire workforce including contingent labor
  • Oversee the administration of HR programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development
  • Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with country & regional employment laws and regulations and recommend best practices; review and modify policies and practices to ensure compliance
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, talent management, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice and resources across the organization
  • Work with the Africa leadership team to identify staffing and recruiting needs, including planning ahead for growth, as well as quick reaction for replacement due to any turnover; develop and execute best practices for hiring and talent management for the country needs and ensure timely acquisition of talents
  • Implement and maintain a talent management process to identify skill-gaps in potential leaders and recommend training and growth options as appropriate
  • Serve as advisor and counsel to improve staffing and support employees to reach high levels of performance
  • Ensure economy and efficiency of work processes as well as contain institutional risk
  • Deliver key HR services and country action plans for efficient and effective services at multiple levels of the HR cycle
  • Identify and implement HR automation tools, taking an innovative approach to streamlining HR administration in line with Global HR strategy
  • Conduct research and analysis of organizational KPIs
  • Lead the FTE budgeting process in close collaboration with senior leaders

About You

  • Proven track record as an HR generalist supporting groups of at least 500-1000+ employees at multiple organizational levels, cultures, and locations within a regional environment (Africa)
  • Strong employee relations background
  • Knowledge across the HR spectrum including employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, and training and development
  • Contiuous improvement mindset with track record in improving processes for efficient and effective execution
  • Comfortable with deep diving into HR & compliance topics and fixing the “basics”
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience in a “blue collar” type of environment preferably in the agro/food/commodity sector
  • Strong collaborator with effective interpersonal skills, humble, service oriented and self-aware
  • Strong relationship builder, demonstrating success in supporting senior management and building strong and trusted relationships
  • Sound project management and organizational skills
  • Fluent in French
