PREPARATION OF DETAILED DESIGNS AND CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION
OF NKHATABAY WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION WORKS

1. The Government of the Republic of Malawi has applied for financing from the African Development Fund and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) toward the cost of the Nkhatabay Town Water Supply and Sanitation Project, and intends to apply part of the proceeds for this financing to payments under the contract for Preparation of Detailed Designs and Construction Supervision of Nkhatabay Water Supply and Sanitation Works. Disbursement, in respect of this contract, will be subject to approval of the financing by the Fund.
2. The services of this assignment will be carried out in two phases. Phase I of the consultancy includes preparation of detailed designs of the water supply and sanitation works, tender documents preparation and tendering phase assistance for the works contractors. Phase II of the consultancy will involve construction supervision of the water supply works contract and sanitation works contract including the defects liability periods. The durations of Phase I and Phase II services will be 12 months and 30 months, respectively. An overall 80 person- months effort is estimated for the assignment.
3. The works for which the Consultant shall prepare detailed designs and thereafter undertake construction supervision will include : installation of raw water pipelines, pressure filters, chlorine dosing system, transmission pipelines, distribution pipelines, pumps and construction of service reservoirs, faecal sludge treatment, solid waste management facilities, public sanitation facilities and auxiliary buildings.
4. The Northern Region Water Board now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing these services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc).
5. Eligibility criteria, establishment of the short-list and the selection procedure shall be in accordance with the African Development Fund’s Procurement Policy for Bank Group-Funded Operations, dated October 2015, which is available on the Bank’s website at http://www.afdb.org.

7.
