The Role

Oxfam International Secretariat is looking for an EQUALS Podcast and Blog Officer to support Oxfam’s EQUALS Podcast and blogThis podcast and blog together showcase interviews between producers and key global figures on a range of topics relating to inequality.

The post holder would be responsible for ensuring the regular high-quality production of the podcast and the blog – that will reach people around the world in different contexts. The post-holder will be someone who is passionate about the fight to end extreme inequality and is creative and dynamic in wanting to be part of a start-up-style public engagement initiative with an entrepreneurial, flexible and results-driven mindset. They must be willing to take ownership, show initiative and up for a challenge.

Key Responsibilities

Key support for project management

  • Coordinate the project and forward-looking project plan for both the podcast and the blog, including managing a production schedule and guest outreach liaison schedule.
  • Manage the budget and cost management for both the podcast and the blog
  • Determine travel and timing implications around the project and guest outreach plan, working closely with the producers to deliver a schedule that is both efficient and maximizes impact

Editing, publishing and promotion

  • Lead in supporting the production of the fortnightly podcast: assisting with editing and recording – this means:
    • taking responsibility for seeing through the process of each episode from recording to publishing including using Adobe software and publishing tools
    • Produce initial edit of podcast interviews.
    • Helping to produce final edit of each episode
  • Work on the forward schedule of guest interviews and topics, and support outreach to guests and liaison and preparation for interviews, including first drafting background research, invitations and guiding questions for the interviews.
  • Lead on external promotion of both the podcast and blog, working closely with internal Oxfam partners, but also forming links with popular podcast and blog platforms, and identifying opportunities for continuous promotion of the products.
  • Support the posting of key highlights from the podcast on the blog, adapting it in written form and speaking to the blog’s target audience.
  • Handle feedback to audience requests and emails, leading on correspondence for all queries.
  • Support the sourcing of other blogs for the blog through identifying individuals, with the support of internal Oxfam leaders, and then leading outreach to them to do so.

Internal co-ordination

  • Support the reference group of key individuals across Oxfam who provide guidance and accountability for the podcast and blog.
  • Support internal sign-off processes where required, to ensure Oxfam accountability for the podcast and the blog, and taking responsibility to determine where this is needed.

Key Working Relationships

  • The post will be jointly line managed by the Head of Inequality Policy and Advocacy.
  • The post will be accountable to the Reference group for the Podcast and Blog.
  • The post will regularly communicate with and update key stakeholders across the Oxfam family, including the OIED and her team, and including the OI Media team for promotion.
  • The post will formally sit within the Public Engagement Department.

Essential Technical Skills, Experience & Knowledge

  • Project management
    • Demonstrable experience of successful complex project management
    • Strong understanding of principles of dynamic global campaigning and advocacy, and of effective research approaches and principles to support campaigning outcomes.
  • Leadership:
    • Proven leadership, negotiation and team building skills and ability to work effectively with others.
    • Ability to lead projects in a clear and constructive way that inspires people to deliver.
    • Strong ability to lead and navigate complex group dynamics to build collaborative and positive team atmospheres.
    • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with demonstrable ability to lead, influence and motivate others.
  • Communication
    • Ability to liaise with a wide range of people, both internally and externally and at many levels, with credibility, tact and diplomacy
    • Ability to get ideas across in a compelling and clear way.
    • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Demonstrable affinity with the aims and objectives of the Oxfam Confederation
    • Ability to think and work in a multi-disciplinary way.
    • Ability to operate effectively in a network environment.
    • Able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
    • Sensitivity to cultural differences and gender issues, as well as the commitment to equal opportunities
