Nature of the Position :

The Human Resources Associate will report to the Administrative and Finance Officer and provide support and offer assistance in Human Resources Operational Support, Assignments and talent acquisition, advice to staff and contribute to an inclusive work environment as well as support duty of care. The incumbent may maintain a direct working relationship with staff in the Sub office and in Human Resources unit at the Country Office. S/he will maintain employee confidence and protect the organization and its workforce by keeping human resources information strictly confidential. Moreover, the candidate should be client service oriented in daily contacts with staff in other field offices within the SO-Office and demonstrate good inter-personal skills. A good background in Business Administration, Office Management, or Human Resources Management, and experience in general UN HR policies, processes and systems is desirable. Furthermore, experience in Human Resources information technology systems and IT tools is desirable. Also, good knowledge of UN/UNHCR Administrative Rules, Regulations and Procedures, Computer Literacy, Administration of a large number of staff within the UN or large NGO, HR-Talent development, Provision of technical HR advice, HR-Relationship Management, Ability to learn is an added advantage. Possession of UNHCR and /or NGO humanitarian support field experience, including emergency situations and working in a remote area, coupled the capacity to under tasks under pressure and in stressful working environment is desirable. French is required and knowledge of English and local language is an added advantage

 

 

Living and Working Conditions :

Accommodations can be found in Abeche and UNHCR Staff can choose their residence while respecting Residential Security Measures.

he climate is hot and semi-arid, with a rainy season from June to September. Electricity supply can be unstable and international staff members are provided generators by the office. Water supplies work in most areas but a personal food and drinkable water supply is required. Most relevant supplies can be found on local markets though choice can be limited compared to other hubs and prices are high as most goods are imported.

Banking facilities are available through local banks, such as Ecobank and BCC and ATMs are also operational. All communications within the office and with external partners such as Government and humanitarian agencies are conducted in French. Fluent French (both written and spoken) is essential for this position. However, working knowledge of English, especially written, is an advantage. There are regular flights from N’djamena to Abeche which makes it accessible for staff.
