ICRISAT :
ICRISAT – International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics seeks applications for Replacement for the position of Senior Research Supervisor (Socio-economics) to be part of the Policy and Impacts (as well as M&E) research Program of West and Central Africa (WCA). The incumbent will be based in Bamako, Mali.
ICRISAT is a non-profit, non-confessional and non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) on five highly nutritious drought-tolerant crops: chickpea, pigeon pea, pearl millet, sorghum and groundnut in collaboration with a range of partners throughout the world. Covering 6.5 million square kilometres of land spread out in 55 countries, the semi-arid Tropics is home to over 2 billion people, with 650 million of them being the poorest of the poor. ICRISAT and its partners help empower those living in the semi-arid tropics, especially smallholder farmers, to overcome poverty, hunger, malnutrition and a degraded environment through more efficient and profitable agriculture. Established in 1972, ICRISAT is a member of the CGIAR Consortium.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position :
The Senior Research Supervisor (Socio-economics) will assume the following duties and responsibilities :
- Organization of pre-surveys trainings in different survey soft wares including though not limited to Survey 123, SISPRO, Survey Solution, ODK, etc. ;
- Contribution to the design of instruments for the collection of quantitative and qualitative data (Questionnaires, Topical Outlines) ;
- Supervision of survey teams ;
- Collation and interpretation of country-based and regional macro-economic data sets ;
- Development of econometric models to describe trends from survey and macro-economic data sets ;
- Initiation/formulation of lessons from project/program implementation ;
- Development of case and/or success stories from project/program implementation ;
- Leading and/or supporting the development of awareness/extension support materials ;
- Contribution to participatory varietal selection and related gender inclusive processes ;
- Contribution to the development of statutory and M&E Reports.
Requirements for the Position :
- Holder of M.Sc. Degree or equivalent in either Agricultural Economics or Economics ;
- A minimum of 3 years working experience in a national or international research for development or civil society organization ;
- Knowledge of concepts and analysis of agricultural sector value chains ;
- Knowledge of the context of smallholder farming systems in West and Central Africa ;
- Knowledge in the use of different analytical packages ;
- Possession of a valid driving licence.
Core Competencies of the Position :
- Demonstrated ability in survey techniques, methodologies and technology scaling ;
- Demonstrated ability in econometric modelling and handling of large survey datasets ;
- Ability to work across disciplines and within multi-cultural environments ;
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and related applications notably Excel and PowerPoint ;
- Excellent command of verbal and written French Language; knowledge of the English and Bambara Languages will be an added advantage ;
- Experience in publishing research results in national and international peer reviewed journals
Duration :
The position is initially for twelve (12) months beginning January 1st 2020, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
