Job Description

  1. Role and responsibilities

The Project Officer is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of Education project activities in Juba / Central Equatoria State.

Generic responsibilities

  1. Ensure adherence to NRC policies, tool, handbooks, guidelines and donor requirements
  2. Implement the Education activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
  3. Contribute to periodic status reports and other documents as required by management
  4. Ensure proper filing of documents
  5. Assist the project coordinator to break down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly implementation plans
  6. Coordinate with relevant partners in the education and other relevant sectors
  7. Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
  8. Train and build capacity of community committees and volunteers
  9. Promote and share ideas in order to improve the quality of education activities and outcomes
  10. Actively promote the rights of displaced persons PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards & principles within NRC and amongst beneficiaries served by NRC.

Specific responsibilities

  1. Implement community based initiatives that promote school enrollment, retention and transition in consultation with the project coordinator.
  2. Support distribution of teaching and learning materials and lead follow-ups on appropriate and correct usage of project resources supplied to schools.
  3. Assist the project coordinator to develop and execute teacher support program at school level together with Ministry of Education officials
  4. Conduct training for PTAs and teachers in collaboration with other team members
  5. Guide and support teachers in delivering conflict sensitive education
  6. Identify vulnerable girls at risk of dropping out of school and implement activities that promote increased enrollment and retention for girls
  7. Conduct consultation and feedback meetings with girls on issues that affect their school attendance
  8. Organize and lead sessions for menstrual hygiene management including teaching female learners the correct usage of personal hygiene kits.
  9. Lead the processes of monitoring, tracking attendance and recommend appropriate steps to take in case of gaps
  10. Participate in education assessments and determine priority needs in the project sites
  11. Ensure correct data collection and tracking of all education interventions and participate in compiling emergency related internal (bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly) and external (interim and final) reports
  12. Other relevant tasks as assigned by the Project Coordinator

By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:

  • Project planning: Education team, CC Specialists
  • Area operations: Area Manager, Education team
  • Staff capacity building: CC Specialists, Education Coordinator Manager
  • Implementation: CC Specialists, Other Education staff including core competency specialists.

Generic professional competencies for this position:

  • At least a National Diploma from a recognized academic institution in Education, Training, Project Management, or any other relevant field
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience from working in an emergency and/or recovery context
  • Experience in teacher training is required.
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Fluency in English both written and verbal required.

Context related skills knowledge and experience (shall be adapted to the specific position):

  • Familiarity with EiE technical standards
  • Experience in working with adolescents, particularly girls is required.
  •  Proven experience in implementing education, socio-emotional learning or peacebuilding interventions
  • Fluency in a native language spoken in the project location essential
  • Knowledge of Juba Arabic an added advantage
  • Good-level competency in computer skills (common Microsoft Office and Windows applications)
  • Proven skills and experience in report writing
  • Strong organizational and logistical skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
